Design Story
The Double Double Idea
How a simple question inspired a new approach to everyday kitchen design.
Sometimes, meaningful innovation begins in the most unexpected places.
For Elihome, one such idea began with a late-night burger, a curious young mind, and a question that would help shape our approach to cutting board design.
It Started with a Burger.
During the pandemic, late-night visits to In-N-Out became a familiar family tradition for Michel Ge and his father in Southern California.
Inspired by the restaurant's iconic Double-Double burger, Michel asked his father a simple question:
"If a burger can be double-double, why can't a cutting board?"
Why should a cutting board be limited to one side? What if both sides could be designed for everyday use, offering greater versatility and convenience?
That simple observation became the starting point for a new design direction.
An Idea Takes Shape in Milan.
Recognizing the potential in Michel's idea, his father brought the original concept to Elihome's Milan design team.
The team explored, developed, and refined the idea, translating dual-sided functionality into practical, thoughtfully designed kitchen products.
What started as a young mind's curiosity evolved into a design philosophy that continues to influence Elihome's cutting board collections.
